  the man who invented the religion known as "jehovah's witnesses," was joseph franklin rutherford.. he is the same man who spread the message, "religion is a snare and a racket.".

  that's right, religion was the poison that caused the rot in the world.. were jehovah's witnesses a "religion?

  Arbitrary, capricious and wilfull people are blown about by whatever is happening "now." They are rootless and easily shifted in opinion and action.

  Interesting that you should say that. It called to mind the words of Ephesians 4:14:

  in order that we should no longer be babes, tossed about as by waves and carried hither and thither by every wind of teaching by means of the trickery of men, by means of cunning in contriving error.

  Isn't that an accurate reflection of how the organization's teachings are always changing and all the JWs just allow themselves to be carried here and there by every wind of teaching the organization comes up with?

  What Bomb Will Be Dropped at This Years District Convention?

  our insightful posters on this site were able to predict the new "spirit directed" generation teachings and fds teaching even years in advance.

  what bomb do you thing will be dropped this year?

  i know it will be big.

  I don't think the bomb to be dropped will be a nu lite bomb. They will be cautious about dropping any more nu lites right now given that many are still reeling from the GB=FDS nu lite bomb.

  I think the bomb to be dropped will be a new release/new feature bomb. It would be some new innovative development. If it's really something ' that has never happened before in theocratic history' then it would have to be something on the magnitude of C.T. Russel's Photodrama of creation.

  Maybe they're working on or have completed a video production re-enacting all the bible stories and will progressively release them on JW.org and/or on DVD and/or in cinemas worldwide. Think of how much money they can rake in globally with a bible movie in the cinemas that they will advertise as being a production that is faithful to what the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts actually contain (as opposed to other recent hollywood productions).

  Maybe it has to do with JW.org. Have you noticed in recent times their push to get the public to the site? I believe they'll add a contributions link inviting the public to voluntarily donate and/or have some big new attraction on the site to hook the public and reel them in.

  Maybe they'll have an internet kingdom hall so that a person who is unable to physically go to the meetings due to illness can log-in to a special page and get a live feed of the meetings. They'll have selected kingdom halls the world over in each time zone to act as the hosts for this feature. This feature would be an innovative progression from the telephone hookup system. You now cannot use illness as an excuse to miss the meetings. But the elders would have to determine who is truly qualified to beneifit because they wouldn't want publishers to use the existence of this feature as an excuse to physically miss the meetings if they can physically attend.

  I think it would be some big new innovation or some new release of great magnitude to distract attention away from the 100 years of uneventful kingdom rule and the discontent of many about recent doctrinal changes. They want to capture/steal the hearts of JWs who might now be sitting on the fence. They want to increase JWs emotional investment in the organization in addition to giving more warnings about apostates. They're trying to widen the gap between the faithful and the doubting. They know they can't win the war with apostates on the information, logic and doctrinal fronts so they have to fight hard on the emotional front which means they have to steal the hearts of JWs with new treats of greater than usual magnitude and use the "dynamic organization always on the move" propaganda.

  Do athiests believe it's possible that aliens, not all powerful God created man?

  i've sort of mentioned this as a different possibility in response to other threads but i was curious if any of you athiests all think that life just evolved on this earth from single cell organisms or if you ever thought it's possible that intelligent life long ago w/ advanced science could have made humans and much of life on earth and just dumped it here or made it here.

  .

  i'm not making this thread to debate, i am just curious if any of you have come up with other ideas on your own as possibilities since all we have for the origin of life are just theories right now.

  It is certainly a possibility. But as jwfacts was alluding, that hypothesis doesn't answer the fundamental question of the orgin of life. All it does is kick the proverbial can (origin of life) down the cosmos to another alien planet. The fundamental question of the origin of life remains unanswered.

  For this reason I think the orgin of life, period, is the more salient question that needs addressing - not just the orgin of life on earth - because at the end of the day finding out that life on earth came from an extraterrestrial source will not really satisfy the burning question of the origin of life. It's like taking out a 10,000 dollar loan to pay off a 10,000 dollar debt. At the end of the day you're still 10,000 dollars in debt.

  thinking about how this felt awkward to some of us women when a bible student noticed something was "up" if a baptised brother sat in on a study.

  rebel8, you're missun da whole point. It's for da angels. Da angels have to see yah wear'n da head covering and they says to demself: "See that human there, she respects headshup, she covers her head. Oh, it just melts my heart! Now I feel compelled to respect Jehoover's headshup! It's a good thing she wasn't not wear'n it, because then I'd ha' been tempted to reject Jehovah's headshup!"

  These angels of Jehoover need the sisters to teach them how to keep their integruty in check. If sister's go around praying and studying with their heads uncovered, all heaven will break loose!

  Report her to the management of the supermarket. Tell management that she gave you a disparaging look because you're a former member of her religion and ask them if it's their company policy to allow staff to let their religion-based prejudices cloud their treatment of customers.

  Women in the WT world - International Womens Day

  so, reading the articles about outstanding women in religion who are notable during this international day of women i noticed that among the episcolpalians, the catholics, muslims, buddhists, wiccans, mormons and bahais (and other random religous leaders that happen to be female) there is not one jw woman mentioned as holding a significant position.

  do you think any of them will look at the list(s) and wonder?

  while barbara anderson is significant in a ministry regarding the wt, she is not listed, nor is she a jw.

  blondie, how could you treat Abigail so shabbily? You just mentioned her name without even giving a brief description. Abigail blasts Watchtower's misogynistic, subject-to-husbands treatment of women to pieces!

  1. She corrected David - not just a male but the anointed of Jehovah, no less!

  2. She brazenly disregarded the headship of her husband Nabal. She knew that her husband didn't want to provide provisions to David and his men, but instead of supporting his decision she defied it by showing them charity.

  3. She spoke disparagingly of her husband to David, calling him foolish.

  4. She rubbed her defiance of her husband in his face by telling him what she had done when he bacame sober.

  Abigail shows that the headship arrangement is not as absolute as the Watchtower would have the sisters believe. If a wife knows her husband is making a bad decision she does not have to support him in doing it.

  Beyond that, it teaches that those in authority - or those who claim to have authority (read: governing body) - do not deserve unquestioning obedience and submission. It is the course of prudence to refuse to go along with any directions from them that are clearly wrong.

  Arguments to prove Noah's Ark story is just a myth

  i've been thinking for a while about the topic mentioned in the title and came to the conclusion that the flood story from the bible provides a very good starting point for proving the bible wrong.. in the following paragraphs i'll be only presenting ideas and potentially logic errors, and possible answer.

  i didn't do any serious research yet, for in order to answer various questions a good base in specific branch of science is required.. according to the bible (the internet) the volume of the ark was 137.16 m * 22.86 m * 13.716 m = 43006 cubic meters (roughly).

  if we was to subtract the volume of the interior structure (elements like walls, stairs, etc.

  Lied2NoMore: If we suddenly could be elevated to that height the first breath we took would instantly freeze our lungs and you would be dead within a few minutes. Air temp at that height is in the -55 to -60 degree range.

  Actually, that wouldn't be the case. The reason for the greatly reduced temperature high in the atmosphere has to do with greatly reduced density of the air. But remember that in the case of the flood it's not a situation of you alone being elevated high in the atmosphere. Rather it's you and the entire atmosphere being elevated together. Your relative position in the atmosphere remains about the same. As fast as the water level rose, earth's atmosphere would also have been displaced upwards, so that the atmospheric conditions on the surface of the water at the height of the flood wouldn't be too much different to atmospheric conditions at the surface of the ground before the flood. (Not that I actually believe the flood story. Only that this issue you raised isn't a valid one.)

  Here on the island it's sunny and windy. It's the dry season. A nice day for the beach. But also a nice day for bush fires.
